Attorney Bios

C.D. Owens, Jr., Esq.

Mr. Owens is the Senior Partner at Owens & Perkins.  From 1943-1946 Mr. Owens participated in the Army Specialized Training Program at the University of Syracuse and University of Illinois.  He then served as a non-commissioned officer assigned to the General Hospital European Theater in Paris, France.  Upon his return to the United States, he attended and graduated from the University of Oklahoma School of Law in 1949, summa cum laude, where he was a founding member and editor of the Law Review.  He passed the bar and was admitted to practice in the State of Oklahoma in 1949 and was then employed as a labor attorney with the Sinclair Oil and Gas Company in Tulsa, Oklahoma. He moved to Connecticut in 1959 to be in management for the Sinclair Oil Corporation and worked in their New York City office until 1966. In 1966, he relocated his family to Arizona and in 1967 he opened a law office in Scottsdale where he has been practicing ever since. Mr. Owens is admitted to practice in Arizona and Oklahoma and before the U.S. District Court for the Districts of Arizona and Oklahoma.

 

Michelle J. Perkins, Esq.

Ms. Perkins is the Managing Partner of Owens & Perkins, P.C. Ms. Perkins was named in Southwest Super Lawyers recognizing the top 5% of lawyers in Arizona, The Business Journal as a Legal Eagle, and she received a Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell for her superior ethical standards and legal ability. Ms. Perkins also received the Scottsdale Bar Association Award of Excellence.  Ms. Perkins was admitted to the practice of law in Arizona in 1994 and was a sole practitioner in Scottsdale for two years. She then co-founded Owens & Perkins, P.C. with her grandfather, C.D. Owens. Ms. Perkins is a Judge Pro Tem for the Maricopa County Superior Court in both family law and probate matters.  She is a current member of the Arizona Chapter of the Entrepreneur’s Organization and Arizona Million Dollar Club.  Ms. Perkins is the former Chair of the Maricopa County Bar Association Family Law Section, former member of the Superior Court Domestic Relations/Mental Health Committee, former Board Member of the Scottsdale Bar Association, former Arbitrator for the State Bar Fee Arbitration Committee and former Board Member of the Homeless Legal Assistance Project. Ms. Perkins has also taught continuing legal education seminars to fellow attorneys.

 

Max N. Hanson, Esq.

Mr. Hanson graduated from Arizona State University College of Law in 1997 in the top one-third of his class.  While a law student, Mr. Hanson was published in and served as an Editor on the Arizona State Law Journal.  Additionally, during law school, he directed the Homeless Legal Assistance Project, a multiple-site, low-income legal clinic, and received the Dean's Award for service to the law school.  Upon being admitted to practice in Arizona and the U.S. District Court of Arizona in 1997, Mr. Hanson has practiced exclusively as a trial attorney appearing in thousands of cases across the state in administrative agency proceedings, arbitrations, bench trials, and multi-day jury trials in a variety of family, civil, and criminal proceedings.  Mr. Hanson is or has formerly been a member of the State Bar of Arizona’s Family Law, Trial Practice, and Criminal Practice sections as well as the Arizona Trial Lawyers Association, the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the American Bar Association.  His practice currently focuses on the areas of family law and criminal defense.  

 

Joseph P. McGurk, Esq.

Mr. McGurk graduated Magna Cum Laude with a  degree in Political Science from the State University of New York in 1996. Upon graduating from St. John’s University School of Law in 1999, Mr. McGurk began his legal career in New York as an Associate Attorney where he obtained immediate, hands on experience in commercial litigation culminating in a successful multi-million dollar settlement on behalf of a software development company. Upon gaining admission to practice law in the State of Arizona in 2005, Mr. McGurk continued practicing in the area of commercial litigation, joining an Anthem, Arizona law firm and was instrumental in the development and expansion of its commercial litigation practice.  In 2007, Mr. McGurk was elected to partnership in the firm and appointed a Managing Partner. Mr. McGurk is admitted to practice in the state courts of both New York and Arizona, as well as the United States District Court of Arizona and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.  Today, Mr. McGurk's practice focuses upon commercial litigation including contract disputes, business torts, partnership disputes, and real property disputes, as well as business counseling and transactional matters including contract drafting and corporate counseling.
